Fixed🗺️ USGS Topo checkbox wasn't clickable — at the map's default statewide zoom, the "USGS Topo" layer checkbox was silently disabled (a side effect of how it was zoom-gated), so tapping it did nothing until you'd already zoomed in close. It's now always clickable; zoom in and the "Zoom in to see the USGS topo overlay" hint tells you what's next.
Fixed📱 Some map layers unreachable on mobile — the layer list (Roads/Satellite/Campgrounds/Trails/etc.) could run taller than the map area on a phone and get cut off at the bottom. It now scrolls internally on small screens so every layer stays reachable.
Improved📌 Drop My Pin now sorts the park list too — no need to tap both Near me and Drop My Pin to get a distance-sorted list AND a precise position marker; Drop My Pin does both in one tap.
New🛷 Snowmobile trails — the official statewide network for Minnesota, Michigan & North Dakota (~4,900 segments), tap any trail for its name and mileage. Wisconsin, Iowa & South Dakota don't publish a statewide GIS layer for this, so they're not covered.
New🗺️ USGS Topo overlay — the official topographic quadrangle (contour lines and all) as a map layer, once you're zoomed in close.
Fixed🦺 Trails, campsites, campgrounds & lake depths not tapping — each of those layers was drawing to its own separate canvas, stacked on top of the others; the topmost one silently captured every tap on the whole map, so a lower layer stopped responding entirely whenever a higher one was also turned on. They now share one canvas, so any of them can be on together and still tap correctly.
New⛺️ BWCA campsites — all 265 individually-designated paddle-in campsites in Superior National Forest, from the official USFS site inventory. Every site has a fire grate and latrine per Forest Service policy; that's noted on every pin, since per-site facility data isn't publicly tracked.
New🌊 Lake depth contours — Minnesota DNR bathymetry (5-ft depth intervals) for surveyed lakes, live on the map when you're zoomed in close. Pair it with 📌 Drop My Pin to see the depth right where you're standing (or floating).
New🦺 BWCA trails & portages — every mapped trail and portage in Superior National Forest (~2,300 segments) from the official USFS trail network, with portages shown dashed.
New📌 Drop My Pin — a precise GPS marker (with an accuracy circle) at your exact current position, meant for checking your spot against the new lake depth layer while you're out on the water.
Improved🏕️ Campground layer reliability — a failed data load now retries automatically and shows a clear, tappable “try again” message instead of a silent empty map, and the layer re-checks itself if you return to the tab after it's been in the background.
Fixed🗺️ Satellite view — the satellite background was asking for its map tiles with the coordinates reversed, so it painted grey “no imagery” squares instead of photography. It now shows real imagery everywhere, at every zoom.
Fixed🏕️ Campground links — Recreation.gov only publishes a page for campgrounds you can reserve, so the link on the other 62 led nowhere. Reservable sites still link to Recreation.gov; the rest are now labelled Non-reservable · first-come, first-served and link to driving directions instead — which is the more useful answer anyway, since it tells you to just show up.
New🏕️ Campground layer — the new 🏕️ Campgrounds button in the sidebar (also in the map's layer control) shows every federal campground in the six states on the map (~340), not just the ones near a park. Standalone sites like Ninemile Lake in Superior National Forest now show up, and each park's “Camping Nearby” list is drawn from the same complete data.
